Description
Really nice 50+ mile road ride that maximizes low traffic backroads and great views. And the brisk sea breeze is perfect on a hot day.
We started on the small parking lot near Sand Hill road just off 280 (but you can start anywhere in the area), took Sand Hill / Portola up to Old La Honda. After the climb, a great descent on the other side of Skyline (35). Then a fast stretch of 84 (with some obnoxious car and motorocycle traffic) up to the town of La Honda. Then a left on Pescadero road, which we followed all the way into Pescadero town. Then Stage road, a real treat and totally preferable over the parallel section of highway 1. After you cross 84, a short climb and Stage road merges with 1. A fun blazingly fast descent and then a right on Tunitas Creek road. The last but toughest climb of the day, Tunitas rises 2000 feet out of the coastal valley over 7 miles then drops you back on Skyline and Kings. Descending Kings Mountain is always a blast, and soon you’ll find yourself in Woodside. Then it’s quick run back to Sand Hill.
