Description

Extremely scenic hike that tags 3 waterfalls on the south east side of Yosemite Village: Vernal Fall, Neveda Fall and Illilouette Fall.

The plan was to make the following loop: up via the Mist Trail, via the Panorama Trail to Illilouette Fall and then Glacier Point and back down to the valley via the 4 mile trail.

However, the 4 mile trail was still closed, so we did an out-and-back to Illilouette Fall instead and returned via the John Muir trail.

If you’re planning a similar hike, do like us and don’t stop at the bridge over Illilouette Fall itself: there’s not that much to see. Go a quarter mile further on the way to Glacier Point: you’ll end up an overlook that has a great view over the fall. (You can’t miss it: it’s basically the first time you have a really great view.)

Along the way, you will have spectacular views over the rest of the valley and Yosemite Fall: it’s called the Panaroma Trail for a reason.
