Description
Nice workout ride starting not too far from town (Portola Valley, that is).
The Spring Ridge fire road to Windy Hill is quite a brutal affair – I hadn’t done this in a while but it’s one of those hills that your legs won’t quickly forget.
After hitting Skyline, I took the paved road southwards for roughly 2 miles, at which point you can reach the Bay Area Ridge trail in Russian Ridge Preserve. Follow the fireroad opposite the Fogerty vineyard for a couple hundred feet, then go through the gate on the left and another couple hundred feet later you’ll find the singletrack to the right.
The singletrack gets you to Russian Ridge and Borel Hill – then it’s back to Skyline, a right on Cloud’s Rest and you’ll connect to Alpine Road, which drops you back down in Portola Valley.
