Description
A great trail with lots of climbing and the payoff of a sweet technical decent. The Zen trail starts at the Green Valley Overlook in St George. Look for the mesa just to the left (east) of the Gap. There are two roads just to the top of the mesa which is called “Bloomington Mesa”. Either road will take you to the Zen Trail This description follows the second road. Climb the second road which is about a mile long and has grades up 10%. Near the top of the road look for a cairn and a singletrack that splits of the road to the right. Follow this singletrack as it continues to climb and passes over the top of the road and a large wash. Soon you will reach some fantastic rock formations which you will pass through. Once through the rocks you will continue to climb up to the rim of the mesa. Stop here for views of the Green Valley trail far below. From here on it is all super fun. the trail continues along the rim of the mesa until it crosses another large wash. Once on the other side of this wash it’s all downhill. The trail descends through some really fun technical rock to a large patch of slickrock. Follow the cairns through the slickrock to a steep descent into another wash. You are now near the bottom and the road is just in front of you but the fun isn’t over yet. Head down the wash towards the road and keep and eye out to your left for a singletrack that cuts through a fence. Follow this singletrack back to the bottom of the climb and retrace your track back to the top of the Green Valley overlook.
