Description

Met up with TahoeBC from the Norcal board on mtbr who took me along on some fine Henry Coe singletrack.

At the start, the Hunting Hollow parking lot, we were enjoying temperatures around 20F – or minus 7 degrees C! The ride down the paved road to the Coyote Creek entrance was quite a trip but once tackling the tough climb on Anza-Jackson I regained feeling in my fingers and feet ;). Riding conditions were actually near perfect today, higher up the sun was warming us and it wasn’t too windy.

Lots of climbing but also lots of really nice new (for me) singletrack – for instance Cross Canyon – the meandering part along the creek was featuring particularly tricky creek crossings, as they were all frozen (see photos).

Later on, I encountered more familiar terrain: Tule Pond and Middle Steer, fantastic descents! I’m trying to forget about the Serpentine climb though.

And what to think of that final climb (no, that’s not an error in the elevation profile): more than half of it hike-a-bike, totally and desperately grueling. TahoeBC assured me the downhill along Spike Jones would be worth it and I tried hard to believe him. He was right. Thanks for a great ride!
