A new PB for me – mostly because this is my first time climbing up Page Mill Rd – I did a respectable 53:31. The time is respectable because I did this climb with Dennis Pedersen, who was also doing it for his first time – and we had a specific game plan – doing 2×20 hard efforts (90% of max heartrate). So we took the first 1.0 mile easy, then went relatively hard for the next 3.0 miles, then went easy for a few minutes and kicked it up again at about the 5.0 mile mark, all the way to the top at 8.2 miles from the start at Arastradero. But I didn’t kick quite as hard for the second half, and could have easily taken off a couple of minutes. Plus, we could have done the first 1.5 miles a lot harder and taken off another couple of minutes. So my time might have been as low as 49:30 or so, doing the climb as a time trial. I’ll test this theory in the next couple of weeks one day.
