Description
The anniversary edition (10 years) of the Shasta Summit Century: a great ride through amazing scenery, with towering Mount Shasta of course dominating the views.
The organization of the event was flawless, well-equipped rest stops at all the right spots and a great team of people behind it.
We did the regular century (there’s also a 135 mile ‘super century’); the climbs got increasingly tough, with the excruciating 14 mile, +4000ft ascent of Everitt Memorial Highway to the ski resort at the base of the big volcano as climax.
The downhill after that, on nice smooth asphalt was a total blast. My GPS track reads some additional elevation gain and miles as I backtracked a bit during the first climb to help my partner out with a mechanical.
