Description

Henry W. Coe State Park

.

This was a busy day at Coe:

.

For the 7th annual Henry Coe fall Circus, Amiel posted up:

Henry Co(e)mmiseration Ride Oct 1st

Alright, looks like the big circus ride of yore isn’t happening this year so this ride is getting rolled into El Hombre’s insane ride. I’ll be at Hunting Hollow by 8:30AM. Feel free to join me. Route will likely include Kelly Cabin Canyon, the new JDT and mostly front country stuff for more contiguous singletrack. And no, I’m not planning on matching even a 3rd of El hombre’s crew’s effort. I have to be home by 5 though, so I can’t camp out at HH after the ride waiting with some BBQ for the Everest Challenge finishers.

And Dan suggested this route:

My general route thoughts … HH > JDT > Spike > Timm > Anza > Jackson > Wasno > Kelly Lake Trail > Kelly Cabin > Cross Canyon > Grapevine > HH

.

I started the day riding up the Jim Donnelly Trail with the Fall Circus (HCFC). From Amiel’s camera, this is what it looked like:

.

Big Larry enjoyed the new Jim Donnelly Trail so much, he made a mtbr thread specifically about it .

.

Here are a few photos of the HCFC group. The first one is Amiel:

.

Chris: “Dynamite. I’m think-kin’ dynamite, Dan.”

Shiloh and Dan:

Mark, Shiloh, and Paige:

.

The HCFC group went Jim Donnelly Trail » Steer Ridge Road » Spike Jones Trail » Timm Trail » Coit Road » Anza Trail » Jackson Trail » Elderberry Spring Trail » Rock Tower Trail » Domino Pond Trail » Wasno Road » Kelly Lake Trail » Kelly Lake where we had a lunch break:

…and tended to Paige’s wounds (scrapes and bruises from a spill on the Kelly Lake Trail descent). From here, they rode Kelly Cabin Canyon » Cross Canyon ( Dan’s track ).

Greg and I split off here goingg Coit Road » Coit Lake Perimeter Trail » Coit Dam Trail » Willow Ridge Road » Hoover Lake Trail » Hoover Lake » Hoover Airstrip » White Tank Trail » Rose Dam Trail » Pacheco Creek Trail » Pacheco Camp where we planned to meet the HardCoe’re 100 riders. Mike / diskus had taken a shorter route and was already there.

We arrived way too early and had time to kill. The three of us did a Coit Road » Pacheco Ridge Road » Ridge Trail » Pacheco Creek Trail » Pacheco Camp loop:

After that Greg did another loop solo out to Phoneline.

.

6pm: no HardCo’re100 riders yet. Realizing that sunset was just an hour away, and well, being bored, we left messages for the guys:

…and headed back:

…Coit Road » Live Oak Spring Trail » Wagon Road » Wasno Road » Tule Pond Trail » (stop to put on lights) Grizzly Gulch Trail » Coit Road » Gilroy Hot Springs Road » Hunting Hollow. Greg opted for a Serpentine » Middle Steer Ridge finish.

From cyclometer (Specialized TurboPro)

  • Total time = 11:18
  • Moving time = 6:05
  • Miles = 34.66
  • Footies = 6,663’

GPX from GlobalSat DG-100 Data Logger. DEC elevations were added afterward so the total elevation gain is exaggerated but the profile is a good representation of the route.
