Soda Springs snow CX ride

Probably the most fun I’ve had on my psyclocross/road bike since I’ve put the skinny knobbies on it. My first time up Soda Springs (an unbelievably consistent grade, 9-10% or so, pretty much the entire way) but most likely not my last time. Somewhat strange, since it is really close to my place… well, at least I now know another good ride/workout spot in the ‘hood.

Above 2000ft pockets of snow started to decorate the road surface, and close to the top it was at times a deep slush fest. Also did a bit of recon for some ‘secret sauce’, and I should certainly come back here when the trails have dried out.

Not that many spots with panoramic vistas, but the view from the few ones was gorgeous today: sun, snow coated hills etc. At the summit (~3000ft) there was still lots of snow left. In some of the tree covered corners it was freezing cold… quite literally so in fact, given the icy spots here and there.

The downhill was quite a bit of sliding sloppy fun, I rode down the hill together with two mountain bikers I met on the summit. I’m impressed with how well the tires performed, thank you Continental for making those (Top) Contacts.
