Description
A super fun ride with Ed – the weather was perfect (sunny and cool) – and we did a very moderate ride – no hard efforts except for the push up “The Wall” at the end of the climb – my average heartrate was only 135 bpm for the entire climb – and yet, I got a new PB!!!!! Yep – the time was 1:16:03 – and that was with a small diversion up someone’s driveway instead of the main road (my mistake!) – so if you back out that small diversion of 33 seconds, the actual time was just 1:15:30 – more than 2 minutes faster than my previous PB of 1:17:32 from a few years ago – wooooooooohooooooo!!!!! I took time splits at the Ranger station (lap 1 – 3.52 miles), the Junction (lap 2 – 6.64 miles), the hairpin near the end (lap 3 – 8.93 miles), the Photo Op hairpin (lap 4 – 10.15 miles), and the base of “The Wall” (lap 5 – 10.93 miles). Incredibly, we did the first 6.6 miles to the Junction in 40:25 (if you exclude that 33 second diversion) – and the last 4.44 miles after the Junction in just 35:02 !!! This suggests that I could have done the first 6.6 miles in about the same time, giving me a total time of about 1:10:00, which is very close to my target time – this should be a good year for the Mt Diablo Challenge!!
