Description
Gorgeous singletrack along the coast from the Skye ferry to Ardintoul, with glimpses of the Isle of Skye through the trees. There are occasional burn crossings to add interest, but they are narrow and were easy to carry the bike across, even on a damp day.
The character of the route changes completely once past Ardintoul, where you are immediately confronted by a steep landrover track climb. (You always know a climb is going to be bad when the steeper sections have been tarmaced to stop them being gouged out by spinning wheels.)
The descent back to Bernera is fast but rough, so wouldn’t make a particularly good ascent if the route was reversed, but an out-and-back along the coast from the Glenelg ferry to Ardintoul and back would make a pleasant route.
