Description

A nice moderate ride with Patrick – the weather was excellent, lots of climbing – only 36.4 miles, but more than 5,600 feet of climbing!! Got close to a PB on the first East Zayante climb and then got a new PB on the second East Zayante climb – woohoo! The ride averaged about 150 feet of climbing per mile, about 50% more than the typical ride we do, which is why the average speed was much lower (just 12.7 mph for the entire ride). But my average heartrate was only 117 bpm, so this means I really wasn’t working all that hard for most of the ride – for example, the Mtn Charlie climb (lap 2) was only 28:59 – and this is almost 4 minutes slower than the PB that I did a relatively short time ago. We did a loop that Patrick has done several times, but this was a first for me – and I really like it! You’re basically either climbing or descending – not too much flat or easy rollers type of riding. On the first East Zayante climb, I did just 9:06, which is only about 15 seconds lower than the PB that I did back on 12/02/06 – fantastic!! And on my PB ride, my average heartrate was 161 bpm – on today’s effort for the first East Zayante climb, my average heartrate was only 141 bpm – a full 20 bpm slower!! So, if I had tried to average the same 161 bpm, I would have most likely done about 7:30, which is my goal for 2007 – wooohoo!!! Then, for the second East Zayante climb, I got a new PB – handily – 17:47 – more than one minute faster than my previous record on 04/22/07 – and on that previous attempt, my average heartrate was 155 bpm – on this new PB, my heartrate only averaged 145 bpm – incredible!!! And, the 17:47 actually beats my goal for 2007, which was set at 18:00 – if I had time-trialed the entire second East Zayante climb, I could have probably done 16:00 or so – simply amazing!!! Now I have to set a new goal for 2007 on that climb!! I’m really on a great roll right now – I was also able to easily beat Patrick on any of the climbs – we took the Mtn Charlie very easy – my average heartrate was only 138 bpm – totally awesome!!!!
