Description
Amasa Back is another classic Moab ride – incredible scenery and vistas, with plenty of the trademark Moab slickrock, drops and ledges.
The route described mainly follows an out-and-back on the jeep road (‘Amasa Back / Cliffhanger’), but as in the case of the Porcupine Rim, don’t mistake this for easy or uninteresting, as you’ll quickly find out. The very beginning already throws an interesting technical ‘problem’ at you – then, after a creek crossing a long climb with a number of tough challenges ensues. The rewards are stunning views from the edge of a huge cliff and the thought that you’ll soon be riding all of this down.
There are plenty of occasions to explore sidetracks or play around on slickrock areas, and there also is a technical and exposed singletrack (‘Jackson’) to close the loop – on this ride we chose to ride the jeep track down, which is a lot of rollercoaster-like fun.
