Description

An excellent day, overall – got a PB on the reverse Bean Creek climb (chasing after Brett and John) and almost got a PB on Mtn Charlie itself – I could have had a PB if I had time trialed the entire climb and put myself under 25:00 minutes, which is my goal for 2007!! I went super hard on the Bean Creek climb and kept within a 100 feet of Brett and John, which is why I got the new PB – and I managed to beat everyone else, including Dave, Patrick, and Warren. Then, I pretty much stayed with Dave on Mtn Charlie, but got separated from Warren and Patrick – I was sure that each one was behind me – and they were – after I passed them both on Mtn Charlie! I had stopped to talk to Grant at the top of Bean Creek, realizing I wasn’t going to be able to hang with Brett and John up Mtn Charlie – and I didn’t realize that Warren had buzzed by me. I did see Patrick, who I caught halfway up the climb – and I apparently passed up Warren, too – but didn’t realize it!! It looks like I passed him on the second steep part of Mtn Charlie. Then, I waited at the top, having beaten Dave by about a minute or so – and saw Patrick, but not Warren – it turns out that Warren was fairly close to Dave – and I just had not seen him, even though he said hi to me – and I said hi back!!! I waited for about 10 minutes at the top of Mtn Charlie, saying hi to all these people, including Sheila, Tia, and Chimene – but never saw Warren because he had already passed me by!! So I went to the next rest stop on Summit at Borel Winery and met up with the girls, who I then decided to ride with – this meant that the rest of my ride was very mellow and easy, as they were not climbing as fast as I might by myself. But we had some pleasant conversation and I still had a good ride, since I had accomplished my main goals of going hard on the first 2 climbs (Bean Creek and Mtn Charlie). Next time I’ll make sure I keep better track of the guys!!
