Description
Rancho San Antonio is a real runner’s park with lots of good (singletrack) running trails. It can get very crowded in the weekends – bikes are not allowed, except on some fireroads, and besides other runners you will likely encounter lots of hikers and some equestrians. The park is located right off highway 280, take the Foothill Expressway exit to get to the entrance. This 5.5 mile loop is one of my favorites and starts at the lower parking lot (where the equestrians tend to park their trailers) – go up the hill, follow Coyote trail at the first intersection, then Wildcat Loop trail. Follow Wildcat Loop trail for some serious climbing and a fun switchback-infested descent, then go past the farm back to where you came from. The route taken here is the lower Wildcat loop – additional mileage (~ 1.8 miles) can be gained by doing the upper loop instead.
