Description
This relatively short but sweet road ride features the classic and popular ‘Portola Loop’ in and around Portola Valley, with an out-and-back on Old La Honda road thrown in for enhanced challenge and entertainment.
The climb from Old La Honda to Skyline adds significant elevation gain to the hilly and pleasant route. Watch for cars on Sand Hill road, in particular near the intersection with the 280 freeway, as the maze of on- and off-ramps with their heavy car traffic sometimes seems like an evil boobytrap for bicyclists. The descent back to Palo Alto along Sand Hill road can otherwise be a thrilling and nice wrap-up of a well-spent sunday morning.
