Description
Absolutely amazing Tahoe ride! Awe-inspiring views most of the way, very challenging singletrack, at times extremely technical, one long tough climb and many shorter ones along the way. The ride starts at Mount Rose (Tahoe Meadows) and ends at Kingsbury (South Lake Tahoe), it’s hence a point-to-point ride so you’ll need to arrange some type of shuttle.
The first eight miles on the Rim Trail are gorgeous, and mostly downhill. The route then incorporates the famous Flume trail, perhaps the most relaxed part of the whole ride but certainly delivering stunning vistas and photo-ops. At Spooner Lake, highway 50 east needs to be followed for a mile or two, after which the Rim Trail branches off again to the south, and the grueling climb to the Bench commences.
After the Bench, it’s downhill, and seriously so: a plethora of gnarly rock steps, tight corners, drops and ledges is thrown at you. At Kingsbury, you can add more optional downhill thrills by looking for the ‘Kingsbury Stinger’ aka ‘Chinese Downhill’ trail (we didn’t do this on this ride).
