Description
A day of skiing at Sierra-at-Tahoe. The big storm had passed a couple of days earlier, but there was still excellent snow to be found at the higher elevations – under a clear blue and sunny sky!
We drove up saturday morning from the Bay Area, hit the slopes, and drove back in the evening – not exactly making for a relaxed day, but at least we avoided the friday/sunday night traffic ordeal, and still had some weekend left…
I really like Sierra for their excellent tree runs. It was getting hairy (or rather, sloppy) at the lower elevations, with heavy wet snow, but higher up conditions were excellent for tree skiing. I took my 98.5cm Kong skis (randonnee convertibles) and they were an absolute blast in the trees. Had to pay attention to my balance though, as I did some powder face plants and had a few other close calls.
