Description
The classic after-work MTB ride in the Palo Alto area… as the trailhead is quick and easy to get to.
This loop gets you on most of Arastradero’s singletrack. Arastradero Preserve is ideal for beginning riders, but it can still be fun and entertaining for the more advanced ones. They can for instance practice their jumping skills near the ‘bowl’ or enjoy the switchbacks of Woodrat’s trail. A lot of fun on a singlespeed, too. Because of its close proximity to the cities on the Peninsula, Arastradero is also very popular with hikers and runners.
Most of the Arastradero trails are on open grasslands with a few forested areas thrown in – the views on the Bay and the Silicon Valley are quite nice. Its extreme proximity to in particular the 280 freeway makes it the ideal quick fix for the free time challenged mountain biker. Heavy winter rains may turn a lot of the singletrack into mud streams (of the sticky type), and they get usually closed off. Everything then looks beautifully green though, turning into ‘California golden’ later in the season.
