Oat Hill Mine road is fantastic, you need to experience it to understand. Probably the most fun ‘road’ you’ll ever ride a mountain bike on. I usually don’t care much for out-and-back rides but here it’s all good. The upper parts in particular pose formidable technical challenges – both climbing and descending them are a blast. The rocky outcroppings and ledges remind a bit of Moab. Suspension comes in rather handy here – I found it very helpful on the technical climbing sections, which require a lot of strength, stamina and balancing skills.

Extended loops / excursions are possible once you crest the top (near the old Holm ruins) but I didn’t have time to do more exploring on this occasion.
